How could Voldemort be a lost cause to help?

He didn't always have hideous looks that just happened because of all the evil magic he did. It took a toll on his body. He was a regular guy (and pretty good looking based on the 2nd film lol). People actually did care about his education like Dumbledore who invited him to Hogwarts and Slughorn who sort of mentored him. Did you read the books? Or watch the movies? There were many people who cared for him and tried to help him but he turned to evil on his own.
