I have tons of split ends?!!!?

okay umm i have boob lenght curly thick layered hair but the problem is that it has a whole bunch of split ends all over the place not just the ends i dont want to cut my hair because i look hideous with short hair i was trying to grow it out but it has split ends so it impossible to do that!!...i dont wanna cut it but i want healthy long hair i havent been using heat on my hair i really dont know why its so damaged!! so should i just let it get super long and then cut??
