Has the Muslim community been unfairly tarnished?

Is it fair all Muslims are seen as terrorists. Has the whole Muslim community been unfairly tarnished because of a few individuals that call themselves Muslims but that do not represent the feelings of most Muslims. The actions of these few are equally despised by most Muslims who try to disassociate themselves from terrorists but cannot do so in the eyes of many.
