Sculpted nails vs regular acrylics? ?

My nails are flat, round, curved the opposite way, brittle, and hideous. Glued acrylics do not stay on and are a little painful cuz they fight my normal nail shape. Should I try sculpted nails? What's the difference? Do they break off easily?
